About
Manuel Steinbauer is Professor for Biogeography and Sport Ecology at the University of Bayreuth. Before that, he was Professor of Systems Paleobiology at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) from 2017 to 2019. He studied Geoecology (B.Sc.) and Global Change Ecology (M.Sc.) at the University of Bayreuth and completed his doctoral degree in Biogeography there in 2013. Following postdoctoral research at Aarhus University in Denmark, he established an independent research profile focusing on biodiversity dynamics, global environmental change, and human-environment interactions.
Manuel Steinbauer investigates the patterns and processes that shape biodiversity across spatial and temporal scales. His research aims to improve the understanding and prediction of ecological responses to environmental change and human activities. Major themes include biodiversity dynamics on islands and mountains, ecological impacts of climate and land-use change, species redistribution, biodiversity monitoring, digital approaches to environmental observation, and the interactions between outdoor recreation, nature conservation, and biodiversity.
